Showroom

Yokohama city, Kanagawa prefecture, Japan

used on interior walls: Biocera

In June this year, the Yokohama showroom of Japan’s largest gas utility, Tokyo Gas, opened its doors in MARK IS, a new commercial facility in Yokohama’s Minatomirai district.
The showroom employs Takachiho Shirasu’s shirasu-based interior-wall plaster product (Biocera).

Tokyo Gas’s Yokohama showroom is an experiential facility that allows visitors to make new discoveries as they see and experience first-hand the kind of comfortable, environmentally friendly lifestyle that gas can facilitate.

As visitors stroll through the facility they come across an old house.
Called Kurashi no Chie (lit. “Lifestyle Wisdom”) House, the building introduces an environmentally friendly lifestyle that makes use of the latest equipment and the wisdom of the past, based on a philosophy of using the knowledge of the past in the present. The walls of the house are made using Biocera.

In the past, many Japanese houses featured plaster walls finished with natural materials.
With its skillful adaptation of elements of the lifestyles of past generations, who lived in harmony with nature, Kurashi no Chie House is an expression of the aspiration for a slightly luxurious, yet environmentally friendly lifestyle.
